About this ebook
The place was Jerusalem and the year was 32 c.e. It was three days after the Passover festival and the first day of the week. Two men were beginning their two hour walk back to their home town of Emmaus. They were sad because only three days earlier their leader named Jesus, who was their teacher and their hope for the future was killed.
As they walked along with their faces long and depressed, they were interrupted by a strange man who asked them, "Why are you two so sad?"
Not knowing that this was Jesus walking with them, they yelled out at him, "Are you a the only stranger in Jerusalem, and don't you know happened a few days ago?"
He said to them, "What things?"
So they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers condemned him to death, and crucified him. But we were hoping that it was he who was going to redeem Israel. Besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. Yes, and certain women of our company who arrived at the tomb early today, astonished us. When they did not find his body they came to us saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. And two of the men in our group went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but him they did not see."
Then the "Stranger" who was Jesus disguising his identity said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn't the the Messiah, the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?"
So beginning at the books of Moses - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy and all of the books of the Prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
Then it was recorded that their hearts burned within them after he had revealed that he was Jesus and left the two men. They understood clearly and realized that the burning in their hearts was the great warm love of the creator filling their souls with his loving kindness and tender mercies.
So come along on this narrative of a book and see Jesus' story displayed through the entire Old Testament Bible.
Perhaps as you read and see this narrative displayed you too will see the pictures of Jesus and your heart and soul will burn with the goodness of God. As you get to know Jesus clearer than ever before it may be like driving up into the mountains and out of the fog. Like seeing the mountain range and breathing in the fresh, clear, crisp and clean air for the first time.
So come along and join Jesus walking with him on the Road to Emmaus. May your heart burn with him as well.

CHAPTER ONE: ROAD TO EMMAUS
3 Days after Passover, 32 A.D.
It was one of those bright spring mornings, the flowers were budding, the fruit trees were in full blossom, and the birds seemed to sing a fresh new song.
Two friends were preparing to journey by foot, to a village called Emmaus that was a seven-mile trip from where they were in Jerusalem.
Jesus crucified was still fresh in their minds. These two men were hanging out with Jesus of Nazareth only a few days earlier in the Temple of Jerusalem. Now with their heads slumped down they moved by foot along the stone road out of the city.
As they began to walk, they remembered their teacher named Jesus. They reflected on what took place only three days ago, when He died on the cross.
Luke recorded the story of these two travelers in chapter twenty-four:
And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. And he said to them, What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?
Here, we see them sad, but Jesus was about to change that.
Do you like to pretend to be someone else? Have you dressed up in a costume so that no one could recognize you?
Of course, you have. Well, this is what Jesus is doing in the story. Then after spending a few hours teaching them and then eating together, Jesus lets them see who He really was. Look at the scripture:
Then He (Jesus) said to them, O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?
And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
He is still in disguise and he begins to teach them as they walked with Him. He taught them how to find who the Messiah really is in all of the Old Testament scriptures.
Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. But they constrained Him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.
And He went in to stay with them.
Now they want Jesus to abide with them. Remember Jesus once said, Abide in Me
. These men were starting to do just that.
Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Suddenly their eyes opened, and they knew Him, and He vanished from their sight.
Surprise
. It is I, Jesus. Then Jesus used his superpowers to disappear out of their site.
And they said to one another, Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?
(Luke 24)
Can you imagine this scene? These two were burned out
because they thought Jesus was dead. However, their hearts felt strangely warmed and their burned-out hearts became filled with the warm light of God as they walked with him. Even though they did not know it was he, they felt his great love burn into their hearts.
Have you ever felt warmness in your heart? Like when your mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa gave you nice warm, hug? You had feelings of love in your heart.
They may have been walking down the slope of the mountain full of olive trees, walking toward the east gate of the temple. They may have crossed over a stone bridge at the bottom of the valley, over the Kidron brook.
Luke wrote, From Moses and all of the Prophets He expounded to them in all of the Scriptures the things concerning Himself
.
Expounded means to make it clear. Therefore, Jesus made it clear to them where he is found in all of the scriptures.
The scriptures back then were the books of Moses, Prophets, and then Psalms, so Jesus explained where to find Him in these books.
Open the Bible, start in Genesis, and go all the way to Malachi. That is what we see happening on this journey.
We are about to see Jesus in all of it. So, get ready to go on a great adventure as we see Jesus teach us as we join him on the road to Emmaus.
We can see the Lord walking with the two men and as he spoke the scriptures, the men felt something good in their hearts.
Imagine it. He starts in the book of beginnings also called the book of Genesis. Here we see the creation of the universe, the sun, the moon, the earth, and the forested mountains and waterfalls.
Most of us read this and think it is only God the Father, doing all of the creating. However, the scriptures point to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit
