    Paulette is an exuberant lover of wild and natural places. She has explored the mysteries of conscious awakening and ancient spiritual truths. Her curiosity and adventurous lifestyle are driven by her quest to uncover the answers to life’s big questions about herself and the human condition.Born of rock-climbing and mountaineering parents, and growing up in Cumbria and Scotland, she spent every spare moment outdoors. Often grubby, barefoot and left to run free or go exploring on horseback, her formative years were dictated by the seasons, raw nature and the animals around her. In her Traya series, Paulette translates her experiences, visions and perceptions through the eyes of a young boy growing up in the Rift Valley of Kenya.For Paulette, the path of developing conscious Awareness was never something to be found on the TV or movie screen, but in the remarkable earthly paradise that was her backyard.Much like her little hero, Traya, she did most of her learning in the arena of life. Eventually, however, at age 8, she picked up a book and fell in love with reading, which became another source to quench her thirst for knowledge and understanding.Paulette’s openness and inquisitiveness carry over to her love of learning and into her own writing style. She often finds knowledge and wisdom that are too close, too personal or too small for the ordinary person to even notice. Filling up her heart from this unique perspective, she lets the insights and imaginative stories flow onto the page, more like a photograph developing in a tray of chemicals than sentences being constructed.An Honours degree in Biochemistry at Manchester University sparked a lifelong love of how the human body works. Science never replaced, but rather augmented, her love of nature and mysticism.She spent six years teaching the art of survival training, bushcraft and vision quests in the wilderness, and has spent time in ashrams. Her life is a continuous study of the unseen and eternal, practising daily yoga, meditation and pranayama. She loves to read ancient texts like the Srimad Bhagavatam and the Vedas and has traveled many times to India. Paulette shares these skills with her students in her yoga and meditation teacher training courses.She worked with the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency), the USAID and the US Embassy in Kenya, running trauma healing programs and rehabilitation of child soldiers in Southern Sudan’s war zones. This sat well alongside her love of safaris, the red earth of Africa and camping under the vast canopy of the night sky.Paulette is also an award-winning inspirational speaker for Vistage, helping CEOs bring balance into their lives while maintaining high performance outcomes.       Foreword

      It’s not very often that I get blown away by a piece of fiction, but leave it to my globetrotting girlfriend to do just that. I’m not sure if Paulette is a spiritual mystic, an adventurer, a scientist or a philosopher, as she always has several diverse projects going on. Every time I run into her, whether it’s in Mumbai, Los Angeles, London or Dubai, she always has an important and exciting discovery to share.

      One of my favourite things about Paulette is that she never stops exploring and learning. She’s one of those rare people who approaches life from a totally different angle, and then actually lives out her beliefs. She effortlessly integrates her acquired knowledge of nature and the world into her everyday life. Now she has incorporated this knowledge into an exciting new series of books, perfect for both kids and adults, Traya’s Quest. Her first instalment, The Journey Begins, follows a young boy who has the ability to commune, and communicate, with nature and animals as he searches for his purpose in life.

      No one else could have written this book. The insights could only come from a person who herself lives life as a journey of discovery. Traya’s motivation in life, like Paulette’s, is a test of passion (something near and dear to my heart!).

      I pride myself on connecting hearts to minds and minds to hearts, and this is what I love about Paulette Agnew’s Traya. For Paulette, and her perfectly portrayed character, heart and mind become one as they allow themselves to tune into their holistic essence and use the natural forces to guide them in their quest for purpose.

      Traya’s adventure teaches us that one’s purpose in life is not found in a job or station in life, but rather in one’s sense of motivation and the impact we make on the lives of others. A shoe shiner’s purpose is not to shine shoes. It is to put confidence in a person’s step, help them acquire gainful employment, allow them to feel the shine of their own dignity and let other people see them in the light of the respect they deserve.

      Read this book to your young school-age children. Let your fifth graders tackle it on their own. Give it as a gift to your kids in high school and college. And read through it yourself in one sitting instead of watching TV.

      As you do, I promise you’ll feel your consciousness shift as you inject something very positive into your karmic bloodstream.
