PREFACE
Why did I write this book?
While for over half a century Americans have been encouraged to eat low fat foods, follow low fat diets and use vegetable oils rather than animal fat, butter, lard or tropical oils, degenerative diseases like coronary heart disease have not even slowed down. What happened to the decline of heart disease? It didn't happen! Instead, incidents of heart disease have continued to rise steadily since the start of all the hype of 'low fat.' And today, health care services, medications and lost productivity on account of coronary heart disease cost Americans over $110.0 Billion per year. And nearly 400,000 persons per year die from coronary heart disease, the most common heart disease.
And I also believe that it is important for you to really understand cholesterol, and the controversy around cholesterol and its role in heart disease.
Now while there are a number of factors affecting our heart health, including stress, lack of sleep, illness and medications; our lifestyle, and in particular our diet can have a very significant effect.
Our bodies are wonderfully made, and if we give them what they need, they can work wonders. As long as they have the ability and are given the nutrition they need, they will continue to function for many, many years to come.
So superfoods, those nutrient rich foods, could make a major difference in your life. But you need to know which superfoods are relevant to the various heart functions and why, to effectively deal with your heart issues.
And so I wrote this book to teach you about superfoods that nourish nerves to your heart, superfoods that ensure good blood circulation, superfoods that lower or prevent hypertension, superfoods that help balance your cholesterol levels, superfoods that help with inflammation, and superfoods that can help you avoid heart attacks.
