The Gambler: A Prestige Class

About this ebook
The Gambler always plays the odds, and (almost) always wins. Luck is definitely on his side, and if it’s not, he’ll cheat a little. He has the ability to reroll die that don’t come up in his favor. If that wasn’t enough, he can also manipulate critical failures, find money, dodge certain attacks, and improve skills.
Most character classes would benefit from at least 1 rank in Gambler. Staying with it for all 10 levels creates a very versatile character who always stays ahead of disaster, and can even use his luck powers to buff his party.
This Prestige Class comes with all the information you need to use the Gambler in your 3rd edition, 3.5, Pathfinder or similar d20 game. It also has a sample character and 7 one-paragraph story starters to get the Gambler into your game as either a hero or a villain. Approximately 2,000 words, plus free samples of my other gaming material and fiction.

GAMBLER
The Gambler is an adaptable, resilient individual who loves a challenge. He is often at home in seedy bars and backroom games, and he is the first one to take a headlong leap past a dragon's mouth to grab a giant gem hanging on a ledge. Full of grand plans and questionable ethics, the Gambler enjoys life and always winds up on top.
Bards and Rogues, naturally, tend to be Gamblers. They have both the personal inclination toward this lifestyle, and they would benefit greatly from rerolling die. Wizards generally don't become Gamblers, favoring the logic inherent in spells. But spellcasters who like more freedom, like sorcerers and clerics using the Luck domain, can benefit from this class. Gamblers who were once Monks and Paladins, who study their abilities for years, are unheard of. Druids and Rangers tend to think the Gambler's powers upset the natural order of things.
A Gambler loves the thrill of adventure, if they can part from their games of choice long enough. They thrive in cities, enjoying meeting strange and interesting people (or rubes), and the excitement that comes from something new around every corner. They will gladly take on missions in exchange for gold, glory, and a story to tell. For a Gambler, the threat of danger isn't a reason to stay home; it's the reason to venture forth.
Hit Die: d6

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Gambler prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Gambler is proficient with all simple weapons, light armor, and shields.
A Gambler can not use any extraordinary ability that requires Dexterity, such as affecting most dice rolls, if he is wearing any armor heavier than light.
The Gambler:
Gambler's Luck: Reroll one of your d20 rolls 1x/day. Unlike some other kinds of luck, you can choose to ignore the rerolled score if it's even worse. For example, you need to roll a 15 to make a Balance check, but roll a 14 instead. This makes you unable to move this turn. You choose to use one of your rerolls to get a better shot. You roll a 7. Normally, this would mean you fall (you failed by more than 5). You can choose which roll you want to keep.
2: Gambler's Luck 2x/day. At level 3, you can now affect d20 die rolls by allies as long as they affect you in some way (For example: a Heal check of someone working on you; a Concentration check by a wizard using flaming sphere against a foe you're also fighting; an attack roll by an ally trying to shoot past you at the hobgoblin you are in melee with).
3: Gambler's Luck 3x/day. At level 6, you can reroll d20s rolled by enemies targeting
