    Who am I?

I am a tax advisor and I am also a published author. And once upon a time, I was also a nonresident of the U.S. I have been there, I know how confusing, how intimidating U.S. taxes can be.

I am an Enrolled Agent, an EA. This means that I have a license granted by the United States federal government that allows me to represent taxpayers in all tax matters. To obtain my license I had to pass a rigorous exam on tax law; and to keep it, I have to fulfill continuing professional education requirements on tax topics and ethics. I focus on international issues; U.S. tax for U.S. citizens living abroad, for non-U.S. citizens living in the U.S., and for non-U.S. citizens living abroad but receiving income from the U.S.

I am also a Certifying Acceptance Agent, a CAA. This means that I have signed a contract with the IRS where I can help taxpayers obtain ITINs (Individual Tax Identification Numbers). By working with me, my clients can avoid most of the hassle that is applying themselves; less paperwork, automatic help when something goes wrong, and a person who knows and understands IRS-speak.

And, I am also a Doctor in Philosophy, a PhD. This means that I am thorough, precise, and pay attention to details. It also means that I am an educator. I strive to ensure that my clients understand their own tax situation. I am happy to answer their questions and explain to them what I am doing and why I am doing it.

As a professional, I welcome any feedback that can make my books better. Please, feel free to write me at [email protected] and/or to post a review in Amazon. Let others know if this book helped you!

    Introduction

Shortly after the publication of my first e-book "Beyond Frontiers: A tax guide for non-U.S citizens", I realized there was a huge group of people in desperate need of help navigating the U.S. tax system: self-published authors who are not US citizens or residents. I assume you are here because you are one of them.

Non-U.S. self-published authors are in a difficult spot; you are unfamiliar with the U.S. tax system and, to make things worse, you are in a category of taxpayer that faces different, especially complex rules within the U.S. tax system. Moreover, most of the information available online about U.S. taxes does not apply to you because you are not a U.S. citizen or resident.

I know this doesn’t sound very encouraging, but bear with me. I’ll explain what all those forms and numbers mean. But before getting into details, let’s make sure that all of this actually applies to you. This book is for you if:

    1) You are not a U.S. citizen.

    2) You are not a U.S. permanent resident (you don’t have a green card).

    3) You don’t spend a lot of time in the U.S. (you don’t live in the U.S. and you don’t spend several months in the U.S.).

    4) You are not married to a U.S. citizen, to a permanent resident, or
