About this ebook
What Lurks Beyond tells the story of four children who decide to play hide-and-seek in an abandoned mansion. A stupid idea, but nothing special. Or so they hoped. How could they possibly have known what their foolish actions would unleash?
Jack de Nileth
Jack was born in Berlin and began to craft fantasy and science fiction stories during his school years, all of which were intended for games that he made with the RPG-Maker engine. During this time, he created a vast universe that most of his stories took place in, with an epic trilogy at its center. But he never managed to finish the last part in the series, even after working on it for 6+ years. The game had simply grown too big for a single person. That universe is now known as the Mortaevum universe. It will contain a retelling of most of his stories as well as new ones. The first book in that series is now in its revision phase, so keep an eye out! You can find the first drafts of his stories on http://www.jack-de-nileth.com

About the Author
What Lurks Beyond
Hide-and-seek is a harmless little game for children to play when they are bored. One player is chosen as the seeker and everyone else hides in a more or less enclosed area. When everyone has been found or when the seeker surrenders, another session begins. This cycle continues until the children are bored once more. And that should have been it, but when I was a little girl, I learned that hide-and-seek can be a truly frightening experience.
Back then, we lived in a quiet hamlet situated at the edge of a lake, which was in turn surrounded by a sea of trees. On the outskirts of the town, at its northwestern tip, stood a derelict and abandoned mansion. A perfect place for tests of courage.
One scorching summer day, my parents threw a barbecue that caused a swarm of relatives to descend on our garden. They patted me on the head, congratulated me
