About this ebook
On October 15, 2013 at 8:12 in the morning, the tourist island of Bohol in the Philippines was violently shaken by the strongest earthquake in its history, Reported as a 7.2 magnitude earthquake of tectonic origin, it was stronger than the Haiti Earthquake in 2010 with an energy reportedly equivalent to 32 atomic bombs. Hundreds of lives were lost, thousands of houses were damaged, millions worth of properties were destroyed.
The peace loving people of the tiny town of Maribojoc lost its most beloved treasure - its century-old church that contained all its memories and served as a repository of all its prayers and dreams.
But amid deep shock and grief and facing the arduous task of burying the dead and cleaning the debris and surviving months of living at the mercy of nature and the goodwill of people around, these residents gathered its collective strength and rose literally from dust.
This is the first of a three part story of how these people held on their hope to recover from their losses, rebuilt their lives and regained their dignity in a matter of six months.

I started and finished the first draft of this book in the amazingly beautiful and peaceful farmhouse of Ma'am Julie Romea Escabarte and her husband Nong Ruben. Their generosity in sharing their space made creative work easier and lighter given that the silence is only disturbed by the sounds of nocturnal birds and an occasional cow.
To prevent me from going crazy, a great set of friends always visited me with a gallon of tuba and kinilaw. My deepest gratitude to them not only for the friendship but for their narratives which provided the backbone of this book.
Dodong and Luisa Villame and their beautiful children Geralou, Juben and Jobert.
Ishmael and Dina Alcoseba, the coolest couple ever.
RJ Jabines and Ian Aniscal, the sexiest couple ever.
Kagawad Alvin Pagaura and Maricel Bastasa, the hottest couple ever
Jacint Van Reboldad, Justin Paenandos, Jaylord Retiza,
and Chariel Salingay the habal- habal driver.

The only way I could gather these stories was to waste
my time hanging out with people, eating and drinking with them, attending all sorts of celebrations and occasions, and actually sleeping in their houses and shamelessly accepting their hospitality cracked floors and crumbling walls notwithstanding.
I need to acknowledge them because they are the real authors of this book. I am merely their writer.
