CHAPTER 1
Interviewing For A New Job And Confused? 4 Ways To Clear The Fog Inside
Did you know that the fear of the unknown is a hard thing to beat? This is something that stops most folks from doing the ultimate goals they're interested in. This is the thing that stops most people from going out and trying new things. This is the thing that stops most folks from trying simple, low-risk adventures like new restaurants. Do you always order the fajitas or hamburger?
The fear of the unknown is something you can easily conquer if you keep the four ways in mind that we'll discuss soon. Clearing that fog of the unknown is something that you can easily handle when you become more mentally prepared in recognizing you are in control of what happens and your ultimate success.
Unfortunately, you can't make any decisions for anyone else, especially during an interview. Everything else that comes from your side of the table is completely in your control. You will project whatever answers and internal value you want to project. Get these four ways added to your toolbox and make interviews work for you.
Give Yourself Some Thinking Time
When you are questioned in an interview, often people feel they need to immediately give a response. Normally, whatever's on the tip-top of their head just comes blurting out. However, there's positive gain from keeping a couple things in mind here.
You don't have to answer immediately. People like to know that you are thinking about the answers before just spitting them out. Spontaneity is great, but strategic thinking and problem solving tactics need to go on inside of your head first before you can just spit out any old answer.
I recommend any time there's a question that has a more involved answer that you wait at least six seconds before answering. If this means just keeping a small count in your head after being asked the question, then do it. Give the question some deep consideration, break eye contact for that little bit, and then give it a quick thought.
Don't let it drag on to 30 seconds, a minute, or anything crazy like that because it just becomes uncomfortable for the interviewer. In order to stop the emotional and immediate reaction type of response, waiting six seconds helps break that reaction and keeps you focused on
