Why The Creationists And Evolutionists Are Both Right
()
About this ebook
Charles Morgan, a confirmed atheist, geologist and science fiction author, shows how the creationist and intelligent design theories do seem to hold some of the truth regarding the creation of life, higher life and ultimately consciousness. He argues that the universe shows every sign of having intelligence and intent in the way it has evolved. Not only this but the concept of a spontaneous creation is a necessary part of the truth.
Morgan goes on to show how two theories for explaining a single phenomenon are if fact quite frequent in the history of science and that in the end it is found that both have some of the truth.
Morgan argues that a view of the universe as a whole and of its place in the ultimate order of things is often not covered by the sciences simply because the is no evidence at hand to make hypotheses that explain the eternal view of reality. However there is now, in fact a body of evidence that goes some way to form a hypothesis

1.1 PREFACE
This book examines the current hotly debated topic of evolution which is raging between the world’s scientists and the fundamentalist Christian churches. In it, I hope to show how the church insists on stepping on its own fingers and making weird claims when it does, in fact, have a valid argument to make.
The question under consideration is this. How on earth did anything so magnificent and complex as human beings come to exist? More than that even, how did the phenomenon of consciousness come into existence? What is consciousness for that matter? This is a huge question and deserves a huge answer.
I am a scientist and I certainly have always accepted the answer that centuries of scientific investigation of this very conundrum has provided, in other words that the planet, then life and then higher life and then human beings are the result of a long chain of evolution taking place over some thirteen and a half billion years. However, I am constantly intrigued to find that many people, we are told up to half the population in the United States of America, do NOT hold to this concept. Instead they argue that humankind was created spontaneously, whole and complete and that this happened very recently. For proof of their argument they turn to a single religious book, the Bible, to provide the evidence of this theory, now known as the Creationist Theory or otherwise called the Intelligent Design Theory . These latter theories stand in stark contrast to the scientifically derived theory which I will label as the Evolutionary Theory of creation.
It has always amazed me that so fundamental a question as the origin of life and consciousness should have two completely different answers, answers that do not have even the simplest things in common. How can this be? Is the evidence provided by science wrong? Or is the religious book wrong? I used to dismiss the Creationist Theory as primitive superstition but as time goes by and a huge number of reasonably well educated people still believe in the Creationist Theory, but particularly the branch of it known as the Intelligent Design Theory, it has occurred to me recently that that theory must surely have enough truth it to convince those who hold to it. What if, I ask myself, what if that theory has some seeds of truth in it?
This book examines both theories and
