There Once Was An Alien From Nantucket
There it/she was again, sitting on a bar stool dressed like a human woman, sucking back a draft and chatting up some fisherman. Why was it that I seemed to be the only one able to recognize her for what she is? It must be, it had to be some sort of mass hypnosis that I'm somehow immune to; mind control on the deepest level.
The Rooster Cage, The Cage
as everyone calls it, is packed as usual on a Friday night in August. The customary eclectic mix of humans is crammed into the bar to hear loud music, drink large amounts of alcoholic beverages, and troll for sexual partners. The well-groomed, carefree progeny of the wealthy mingle with rough, bait-stained scallopers, middle class summer-jobbers, weekend tourists just off the boat and local lost souls. I don't recall how long this place has been here, but I know I love sitting in the corner watching the show. Here in this dusky room, in The Cage, all was equal. Alcohol, hormones, and similar desires cut across the class barriers. They were all after the same thing and would turn a blind eye to their differences - at least until last call.
The alien, I call her the gray lady
, is very good at the pool game. It seems to come natural to her for some reason, wielding the stick like a master. She'd lean over and look down the table
