About this ebook
Bush verse by Majella Stapleton, a bush poet from the south west outback region of Queensland, Australia. These stories in verse are snippets of life on a local level in Charleville - a typical small outback town, remote from the services and value systems of the bustling cities on the eastern seaboard.
Majella's wry humour flavours her stories of "the country further out" (another term for the Australian Outback)as she tells of the local cricket team, the dentist,, friendship, landscape, dogs, droughts and flooding rains. For anyone who has any connection to life in the outback, the stories will rekindle memories and to others it is a glimpse of a lifestyle and community so different from the cities and "country further in".

RHYMING LINES
I started writing poetry
A few years ago you see
Lines just popped into my head
I had to set them free.
I’d read lots of Henry Lawson
Banjo Patterson and Co
I thought it all pretty neat
And had to give it a go.
Sometimes the pen just skims along
Words flow out by the page
Other times I’d sit and think
And couldn’t make the grade.
No matter what the joys are
Or if the pain is strong
The words just tumble round about
And carry on and on.
I’ve written prayers and poetry
Farewells and ditties too
Of funny things that make us laugh
And those that make us blue.
After all it’s just a story
That’s written in a rhyme
And we all can tell our story
Until the end of time.
RECUPERATION
Blue forms are done
It’s time for fun
For holidays are coming
I’m going west
For play and rest
And lots of gentle sunning.
With clear blue skies
And starry nights
The southern Cross is shining
Vast open spaces
Those familiar places
Bring me great peace abiding.
While I am gone
From all the throng
