I began baking at age nine; I pushed a chair up by Mom and watched her. She was a great cook and baker; she taught me all about baking. Then she enrolled in four-to-four class and then, in high school, home economics 1 and 2. My instructors were wonderful. I entered the chocolate cake in the county fair, and it took first place. Prize was $15 cash and 10 lb. of flour and, of course, the ribbon. My name was in the local paper for honorable mention. This was all the encouragement I needed to continue baking.view less
