About this audiobook
“Kids always search for heroes, so we might as well have a say in it,” Brad Meltzer realized, and so he envisioned this friendly, fun approach to biography – for his own kids, and for yours. Each audiobook tells the story of one of America’s icons in an entertaining, conversational way that works well for the youngest children, those who aren’t quite ready for the Who Was series. Each entry focuses on a particular character trait that made that role model heroic. For example, Amelia Earhart refused to accept no for an answer; she dared to do what no one had ever done before, and became the first woman to fly a plane all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. This audiobook follows her from childhood to her first flying lessons and onward to her multi-record-breaking career as a pilot.
This engaging series is the perfect way to bring American history to life for young children, and to inspire them to strive and dream.

I've seen tons of these books so I decided to try one from the Little Free Library. I am not impressed. Amelia is shown as a kid throughout, not a growing girl and woman to equal others in her life. Her short size makes her look ridiculous in cars, planes, and next to adults. I can't decide whether this is meant to be a kid imagining she is Earhart or if she's actually supposed to be Earhart. There's lots of modern slang and phrasing, so maybe the former? But then she's only ever around people who seem period-appropriate in drawings. Oh, and 8 out of, like, 40 pages are dedicated to a roller coaster she built as a kid. I guess I just don't know what the message is supposed to be. I mean, it says right out, "I hope you remember that the greatest flight you'll ever take, is the one no one has tried before." But then I'm rembering how she disappeared, which isn't mentioned at all. I'd prefer an honest, straight-up biography. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

This book was adorable - and awesome! I loved the way it was drawn and I really loved the message! My daughter did too! And it was a great introduction to Amelia Earhart for her as well! Great book! - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5

Too whimsical and too incomplete for a biography. There are many better alternatives for introducing younger readers to Earhart. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

I really liked this book for several reasons. First, I liked the illustrations throughout the book. The illustrations were cartoons, and bright and colorful. I liked how the illustrations had a cartoon version of Amelia Earhart instead of real photographs and it was of a little girl. This made the book more relatable and fun for kids to read. Second, I liked how the book had textual features in it. Along with the illustrations, there were speech bubbles that went along with the book. For example, one illustration was of Amelia Earhart and her flight instructor in the air flying a plane. The instructors speech bubble said, “That’s enough flying for today” and Amelia’s said, “No! I can do better! One more flight!” These made reading the book more fun and also added more information about Amelia, like how she never gave up and tried her hardest. Third, I really liked the plot of the story. The book is written in first person as if Amelia Earhart is talking to the reader. At the beginning of the book it says, “I am Amelia Earhart” and “When I was little…” Also, I liked how the biography turned into a story about a little girl who was adventurous and ended up flying planes. Overall, the main idea of this book is to show its readers who Amelia Earhart is and what she did during her life. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Summary:
This book is about Amelia Earhart a first female pilot who flew across the Atlantic Ocean. It has alot of information about her and how she realized her dreams and entered the world history.
Personal reaction:
I think this is great book to read to kids and how even as female you can do anything you put your mind too.
Classroom extension ideas:
1. The class could read this book during a history lesson about Amelia Earhart.
2. The class could make thier own paper airplane. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I really thought this book was cool, and I like how it is part of a series. Biographies for young students never seem interesting and this kind of book I thought would capture the interest of students. The pictures in this book are really fun, and there are character talking bubbles included. Women power is a theme of this book as well as determination.
