I was so excited to see that Nita Prose has penned a Christmas novella called The Mistletoe Mystery. And yes, this is a book that features Molly (the Maid) Gray as the main character.

If you're a big fan of this series like me, you're in for a wonderful read or listen. And if you've never read the first two books...what are you waiting for! This is a great way to get a taste of this series.

Molly works at the upscale Regency Grand Hotel as a maid and she loves her job. Now, the other thing you need to know about Molly is that she struggles with social skills and can't read the nuances of interactions - facial and conversational.

With Christmas looming, and a staff secret Santa event, and her boyfriend acting odd, she is stressed - and worried.

I just adore Molly and you will too! I chose to listen to this novella. The reader is Lauren Ambrose and she has done a fantastic job of bringing Molly to life with her voice. She captures Molly's emotions, inner dialogue and her struggles and her joys with her performance. I appreciated the connectivity, as Ambrose has narrated the first two books.

Short and saccharine sweet, Molly the maid gets a Christmas surprise in this novella that continues the series.

Increasingly suspicious of her beloved boyfriend, Juan, Molly is worried this holiday season. He’s been disappearing with alarming regularity and evading her questions. Is he not meant to be the love of her life?

Listened to the audiobook while following along in the ebook provided by the publisher. I appreciate the Molly stories as she gets discombobulated because she takes everything so literally. The narrator did a great job voicing the characters and that enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

Definitely you will want to have read the previous two books in this series.

THE MISTLETOE MYSTERY – A MAID NOVELLA by Nita Prose
Let me start by saying I loved THE MAID. It was a delightful, insightful and charming mystery with a unique character in Molly the Maid. Molly was somewhere “on the spectrum” without it ever being said or alluded to. Molly had a wise and understanding grandmother who loved Molly just as she was and a job that fitted her personality perfectly. If you haven’t read THE MAID, you should.
Unfortunately, THE MISTLETOE MYSTERY while having the quirky Molly as the main character and her boyfriend, Juan, as a good foil for her, simply misses the mark. Molly’s quirkiness seemed forced. Her boyfriend seemed too good to be true. The plot (I’m not giving it away) was too transparent (I solved the mystery in the first few pages), and the situations were too obvious.
So – did I enjoy the book? Yes, it was a good read for a lazy afternoon. Will I keep this book on my shelf? NO, a second read would simply be boring. Will I recommend this book to someone else? Probably not, but I might give it away to someone who just needs a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
My final take – Nita Prose, a good author, was asked (forced?) to write a Christmas story and she briskly polished this off with dispatch in order to fulfill her contract.
