About this audiobook

From an author “destined to become a titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), a haunting debut—soon to be a Netflix original movie—about two homeowners whose lives are turned upside down when the house’s previous residents unexpectedly visit.

As a young, queer couple who flip houses, Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they’ve just gotten on an old house in a picturesque neighborhood. As they’re working in the house one day, there’s a knock on the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in.

As soon as the strangers enter their home, inexplicable things start happening, including the family’s youngest child going missing and a ghostly presence materializing in the basement. Even more weird, the family can’t seem to take the hint that their visit should be over. And when Charlie suddenly vanishes, Eve slowly loses her grip on reality. Something is terribly wrong with the house and with the visiting family—or is Eve just imagining things?

This unputdownable and spine-tingling novel “is like quicksand: the further you delve into its pages, the more immobilized you become by a spiral of terror. We Used to Live Here will haunt you even after you have finished it” (Agustina Bazterrica, author of Tender Is the Flesh).

Good read. Wish there was a bit more info about some of the characters. Lots to assume or make out for yourself once the book is finished. Maybe like a post author note or something. Would love to know who everyone in the story was. Still a 5 star read. Maybe I would have taken notes on all the additional characters as I read through it. Would love more books by the author.

Id give this 0 stars if I could. I dont get the hype. This book is sooooooo boring. The main character is insufferable and the supporting characters aren't any better. I wanted someone to take the main character out in the backyard and put her down like old yeller. The book puts so unnecessary details into things that don't matter and it just drags on and on. The "twist" everyone hypes up is literally spoon fed to you the whole story so it isn’t even a shocking revelation and doesn't even redeem this slog of a story. The concept is vaguely interesting but executed in the most "watching paint dry" sort of way. Idk what suspense people felt because the only time I was on the edge of my seat was when I wanted to get up and walk away from the story. Vauge horror elements at best. The book feels like some poor reddit creepy pasta. I even laughed at one part where if felt like it was making the Kuzco Meme. Paraphrasing but the scene goes like this "I felt a vibration in my pocket. It was the cellphone. Charlie's phone. The phone I had taken from Charlie".... BTW just a few moments earlier the book literally told you she stole the phone so the extra exposition was so unnecessary. Idk how people want a sequel. I want my time back. If you still want to listen put it at 1.2x speed.

Love this trope, and the narration is very well executed too contributing to the overall creepiness of the story.
Would I have enjoyed more answers? Sure, but to be honest this is the kind of story where the unanswered questions serve it well... I'm more impressed that the author was able to not give more into explanations

Over I was thoroughly entertained throughout this book. I was on edge. This was a really good thriller. I liked that there was a mixed media element to it. For example, there was newspaper articles from the past and interview clips from the present. This was very creepy. There was a couple holes that I feel I could not bypass the main one being that when the main character tells the other main character that there’s someone in their basement it’s just brushed off and they go to sleep. There’s no way I would have not been able to sleep, I hear that there is possibly going to be a sequel which I think needs to happen because that ending was mind blowing especially the final paragraphs.

Where’s the plot? Where’s the solution? Where’s the hero? Where’s the origin story? Hated every second of this book. Wasted a lot of time on overly descriptive nonsense!

Wow. At first I thought this would be a certain type of story and it totally wasn’t. This book is wonderfully mind-bending and leaves you with …well I’ll let you discover it for yourself. Great book, one of the best I’ve read/listened to in a long time. I strongly recommend it.
