About this audiobook

This is the classic introduction to Vipassana meditation: a full-length study of the teaching of S. N. Goenka, prepared under his guidance and with his approval. Useful for meditators and non-meditators alike.

This was the first book to appear in English that accurately describes the practice of Vipassana at length for the general reader. It includes stories by Goenkaji as well as answers to students' questions that convey a vivid sense of his teaching.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be an excellent and wonderful book that harmonizes their practice of Vipassana. The narration is nice and the writer beautifully explains the essence of Vipassana. It helps readers organize their thoughts and let go of opinions. However, some find the sound quality of the audiobook to be lacking and criticize it as theoretical jargon aimed at promoting the author's own program.

Each time I read or listen to this book, my practice of Vipassna and knowledge from this book harmonize! Practitioner or not, I recommend this book to everyone. If not a practitioner, you will find reasons to start practicing, if a practitioner, you will come back to it to find answers for questions that stall your practice! Very beautifully explained by the writer, to help both inquisitive and the experienced, to transcend you to next level, to where ever you are!

This book was a good read. It helps you to organize your thoughts. If you thought that you were organized and that, your thought pattern was clear; as you listen to this audible it becomes a little bit clearer within your head space. It truly helps you let go of opinions and thoughts.

Rubbish, theoretical jargon aimed at promoting selling the own programme.
There is nothing new or thought-provoking.

The in-between parts are very nice to listen and understand the chapter better. Only the sound of the whole book could be a bit better.

im not terribly familiar w the modernist vipassana movement, so i cant exactly review this book in that light

its certainly not a history book tho

anyway its a fine enough summary of meditation principles and general precepts from the pali canon of thervada buddhism, but the authors interpretations, translations, and assertions r often incredibly frustrating
