About this audiobook
Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's novel is about orphaned Mary Lennox, who is sent to live with her uncle at Misslethwaite Manor in Yorkshire. Initially a sour, bad-tempered child, Mary begins to bloom under the influence of nature when she discovers a long-abandoned garden on the grounds of her uncle's estate. Burnett's novel is brought to life by LibriVox volunteers who lend their voices to her characters.

Frances Hodgson Burnett
Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849–1924) grew up in England, but she began writing what was to become The Secret Garden in 1909, when she was creating a garden for a new home in Long Island, New York. Frances was a born storyteller. Even as a young child, her greatest pleasure was making up stories and acting them out, using her dolls as characters. She wrote over forty books in her lifetime.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be one of the best, most heartfelt books they've ever read. It is full of every emotion known, including anguish, sorrow, despair, and love. The story is simply magical and has been loved by readers since childhood. Some readers prefer the BBC reading over this particular version, but overall, this book is considered a classic and a favorite among many.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5One of my favorite stories of all time. But I'm not a huge fan of this reading of it. Ben weatherstaff, Colin and Mary and Dicken were read well enough but the Dr was terrible and the narrator was just reading with no passion for the exciting bits, almost like an automated voice. The BBC reading is MUCH better
