- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Scholastic theology: the ordinary listener would not have a clue what the author is talking about, whether he is over-interpreting or mis-interpreting simple lines from Genesis. There is no way of verifying either case, which leaves us in a quandary. The presupposition is that the words written down in Genesis are the Word of God. This being the case, they must have profound and obscure meaning that only the clergy are able to discern as a result of their years of study in the seminaries. The Catholic Pope thus becomes the authority figure for all the clerics below him in the hierarchy. What is interesting in this 1979 scholastic exploration of the fact that God created man and woman, is it’s backdrop of the Sexual Revolution and Woman’s Liberation moments happening in America. Today, as a result, man-made laws affecting marriage have been changed in many countries. Nowadays, men can marry men, women can marry women, and babies made by artificial insemination and the hiring of a woman’s womb. Clearly this is all done in defiance of the Word of God, based on interpretation of Genesis. We now read of Pope Francis blessing same-sex marriages. What is going on? I must now search for a papal encyclical that attempts to sanctify same-sex marriages.
