About this audiobook
“A gorgeous, gut-wrenching” (Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author) historical novel about two mothers facing unthinkable choices as the Nazis invade France—from the New York Times bestselling author Kristin Harmel.
Paris, 1939: Young mothers Elise and Juliette become fast friends the day they meet in the beautiful Bois de Boulogne. Though there is a shadow of war creeping across Europe, neither woman suspects that their lives are about to irrevocably change.
When Elise becomes a target of the German occupation, she entrusts Juliette with the most precious thing in her life—her young daughter, playmate to Juliette’s own little girl. But nowhere is safe in war, not even a quiet little bookshop like Juliette’s Librairie des Rêves, and, when a bomb falls on their neighborhood, Juliette’s world is destroyed along with it.
When the war finally ends, Elise returns to reunite with her daughter, only to find her friend’s bookstore reduced to rubble—and Juliette nowhere to be found. What happened to her daughter in those last, terrible moments? Juliette has seemingly vanished without a trace, taking all the answers with her. Elise’s desperate search leads her to New York—and to Juliette—one final, fateful time.
A sweeping celebration of resilience, motherhood, and love, The Paris Daughter is “historical fiction at its best” (Sadeqa Johnson, New York Times bestselling author).

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked the book overall, but the ending felt a little abrupt, especially in contrast with other sections of the book that had lots of detail and emotion.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Incredibly moving and such a page turner!! Highly recommend as an avid reader of World War II fiction!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this book. The love the mothers have for their children is so touching. Cried a few times
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic book! As usual with this author, the characters drew me in and I could easily imagine each scene. It's an emotional story, but a great one! As a mother, I found it especially moving.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A good story and at times gripping, but also predictable and repetitive.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Although the author told a good story, the ending was very predictable from early on. Additionally, much of the language was clichéd and repetitive, as was the plot. It felt as if it had been published without strong editing. At times, it felt tedious to get through it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I learn so much from reading Kristin’s books!! I couldn’t not stop listening & didn’t want this wonderful book to end!!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent historical novel with an unexpected twist. Great narration. Highly recommend.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Horrible book. Very sad, depressing and not well written. I felt like I was reading a Danielle Steele Novel. Every incident repetitive about Matilde , Juliette's husband Paul and their children. The blame is on repeat in every chapter. The author wrote paragraphs on unrealistic events. Example. Juliette writes a shirt letter to Elise and the friend Ruth Levy decides to nit nail the letter and hop on a transatlantic ship to deliver it in 3 days. First off, those tickets were expensive to obtain and the ship did not leave regularly from NY harbor. The list goes on and I will not spoil it for yjose who want to read it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Kristin Harmel is the finest World War 2 fiction writer!
Loved it! Twists and turns! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a great book! I couldn't stop listening! I didn't see the twist coming but I always learn something new about the past when I read Kristin's books! I agree with Kristin that it's important to learn about history! It does often repeat itself. This story made me think about how lucky I am to have my 2 sons here with me and that we are safe! Great reminder not to take motherhood for granted and also not to take my loving husband for granted either. He would have never done what Elises husband did. He would protect his family. I guess this book reminded me of how lucky I am! Kristin Harmel never disappoints! And although I absolutely loved the book of lost names.. The paris daughter is even better!
