About this audiobook

Now an HBO limited series starring Ben Mendelsohn!

Evil has many faces…maybe even yours in this #1 New York Times bestseller from master storyteller Stephen King.

An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens—Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

As the investigation expands and horrifying details begin to emerge, King’s story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Editor's Note

Bizarre, wild ride…

Stephen King’s wild ride of a thriller has been adapted into a series on HBO starring Jason Bateman, Cynthia Erivo, and Ben Mendelsohn. The unsettling story begins when a seemingly straightforward investigation into a monstrous crime reveals supernatural forces at work.

Way too long. Listened to it at 1.8x for the latter half of the book. It was unnecessarily stretched. Typical story in which the "villain" does not do anything the "hero" and the climax sucked. Disappointed

Started out interesting but took quite a bizarre turn. I suppose it's very King. Writing is excellent as you'd expect but the story really felt it had little point by the end.

Good tie in with character from Mr. Mercedes series. The origin story wasn't the best, but it was still fun to read (listen to).

It was OK. It was weird how long it took for Holly Gibney to be introduced to the storyline, for me the book could've been shorter and less descriptive, but I guess that's just Stephen King's style. The end was exciting, though.
