About this audiobook

We thought we'd play a fun prank on her, and now most of us are dead.

One last laugh for the summer as it winds down. One last prank just to scare a friend. Bringing a mannequin into a theater is just some harmless fun, right? Until it wakes up. Until is starts killing.

Luckily, Sawyer has a plan. He'll be a hero. He'll save everyone to the best of his ability. He'll kill as many people as he needs to so he can save the day. That's the thing about heroes—sometimes you have to become a monster first.

Surprisingly tender, with an unexpected glimpse into the mind of paranoid schizophrenic. Went in blind, and finished in one sitting.

I genuinely hated this. The story is honestly not good. The book drops its premise almost immediately. The set up has so much potential and it ultimately does nothing with its titular mannequin. Don't waste your time.

..it was okay I guess. Kind of lost interest an hour in when they reveal the real plot. I think they could've delayed the reveal a little bit. It was mostly a boring 2 hour slog after that. Not familiar with how (spoiler) this illness manifests but it seemed unrealistic that he seemed so detached from sanity/ reality while trying to be "normal" and that nobody noticed at all that he'd lost his grip. Midway through the last chapter I guess it kind of picks back up but I dunno it had too many plot holes "or whatever".

A metaphor for the death of childhood fun, the end of childhood relationships, the fear of leaving your family and fear of what the future holds; like an epic super hero movie that’s in the theater, moves to bootleg copies, then to dollar theaters, to a drive in then finally to DVD; told from the POV of a young man, the book moves fast and reads like a movie script.

Seria o manequim gigante real, ou apenas fruto da imaginação de uma mente doentia? Para mim, a segunda opção é a resposta óbvia, mas será realmente? Uma leitura interessante.

I have no idea what i really think of this book - it was so strange. I think i liked it. But later, my memory might make me think - What the hell was that?! Im never a fan of open endings - but again - im not even sure if this is an open ending ... Just strange and weird. Glad i read it though.

    SPOILERS

Narrator did a great job! I wish the story played more into our "protagonists" possible mental illness more though. It was hinted at in the beginning with the mention of him being off his pills, but I wish there was more of that push to give Sawyer a bigger reason to do what he did. I felt like his big realization of "oh, if I don't do it he will" could've been built up more. Also, the twist at the end felt a little out of place. I just don't if a sophomore aged girl would just... live off the land instead of going to police. But still, very enjoyable read! Good job!

Well I’m sure if it was an audio issue but there was just random gaps of silence in the story.

Other than that the book as alright, interesting tale to say the least.

I thought it was an interesting route to take with a story. You don't expect to find a main character on the type of mission that this one is. There are also some cool parallels to Frankenstein that SGJ points out himself. Let's suffice it to say that this is one freaky mannequin.

3.5 stars. I really did enjoy it! I wish what happened with the mannequin in the theater was a little clearer at the end, along with a couple of other things. Graham’s writing is phenomenal as usual.

This short story was wild…WILD! And creepy. The whole time I just kept thinking “what did he say?? Did he just…” and he did. He did just. I wish I could read this again for the first time because I want to experience this crazy ride again.

Interesting and quick read. Not exactly what I was expecting when I first started it, but it was still good. I'd even consider this to be more of a "fun" horror read than anything and would even recommend this during the Halloween season to dip your toes into the spooky atmosphere of the season.

Um... what? Haha why was this not a single night of cheesy 80s slasher mannequins killing teenagers off one by one??? A huge, fun opportunity was sadly missed!!! So disappointing.
