About this audiobook
Lorena Adler has a secret—she holds the power of the banished gods, the Noble and the Vile, inside her. She has hidden her entire life—both from the world and from her past. She’s content to spend her days as an undertaker in a
small town, marry her best friend, Julian, and live an unfulfilling life so long as no one uncovers her true nature.
But when the notoriously bloodthirsty crown prince comes to arrest Julian’s father, he immediately recognizes Lorena for what she is. So she makes a deal—a fair trial for her betrothed’s father in exchange for her service to the crown.
The prince is desperate for her help. He’s spent years trying to repair the weakening Door that holds back the Vile … and he’s losing the battle. As Lorena learns more about the Door and the horrifying price it takes to keep it closed,
she’ll have to embrace both parts of herself to survive.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to have a great magic system, but some find the characterization of the main character strange. The constant romantic tones without any romance make her come off as manipulative. The dialogue also gets repetitive in some chapters. However, there is mention of LGBTQ+ representation, with asexual main character and a fleeting mention of a M/M relationship. Overall, the book is rated around 3.5 to 4 stars.

The narrator breaths too loud
they keep saying this book is an LGBTQ+ Book and the whole time I was like how then I was like oh.... I guess the main character being asexual could be why they said it was ... So not really any romance fyi....They fleetingly mention a M/M relationship, and one person was called them although it took me a while to notice because they were always in a group. Till towards the end.
But with the barely their romance it's F/M
I'm going to give a 4 but it was more a 3.5
Alright, my review. Initially at the glance of the cover I thought it would be a vampire book. Nope....
Then I read the back and I was like ohhh we're going to have GODS! Nope.
We have an orphan girl who you guessed it a chosen one she has 2 powers chose her and it's very rare for it to happen with gives her the power to both create and destroy.
She's flown under the radar because everyone who wields powers is bound to someone to you guess it control how much and when they can use their powers.
She's caught when she tries to save the man who took her in after she showed up.
Guess who caught her?
The evil blood thirsty prince.
But he doesn't want to bound her he wants her help in closing a door that is about to open and end their world as they know it.

I absolutely adore that this is not a happy ending book. ?
But at the same time I'm happy with the ending. They definitely snuck a plot twist on me. I can usually see them but you got me you sly dog. ?
You know in book how the poor kid loses her mom and want things to be right but they go about a more heroic way .... This one doesn't and I am absolutely giddy about it..... You know what I change my mind its a 4 ??♀️ you might not like it but I enjoyed myself and this book has a ton of quotes I absolutely loveeee.
Let me drop a few just because I gotta!
??????
?It's not as if I can hate you for not loving me. When you can barely love yourself.
?A wild dog is just as dangerous as a trained one
?The world does not demand we break ourselves to survive. The people refusing to help us do
?What number of survivors make the dead worth it.
?I wonder what I would gain from devouring you
(one of the few "romancey" scenes)
?Knowing the worst part of yourself isn't for everyone1 person found this helpful

Great magic system but the characterization of the Mc is... strange. All the constant romantic tones without any romance. It's almost like if it's not platonic intimacy she metaphorically rolls her eyes and runs in the opposite direction. Comes off as much of a control freak as Alistars mom. I get that's the point of being asexual but the lack of communication about it just makes her come off as manipulative. My terms or no terms. That'd only detract one star but the dialouge gets really repetitive in some chapters.1 person found this helpful
