About this audiobook

In Self-Compassion: Sweeten Your Life Through Kindness and Understanding, an audio course from Scribd Coach, yoga and meditation instructor Hien Hong breaks the myths associated with self-compassion and explains, one component at a time, how we can develop greater self-compassion in our own lives. Throughout the course, Hong explains self-forgiveness and kindness, how to notice what your body needs and fulfill its needs, and much, much more. In addition to a trauma-informed lens and a special focus on the self-compassion needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, Hong share exercises to help you begin applying what you’ve learned right away.

Misconceptions about self-compassion abound in our society; Hien Hong sets the record straight with compassion, empathy, and eclectic wisdom.

It was a good listen until she started labelling white people as white supremacists

I have to disagree with Janece. Us white folks have so many spaces made for us, by us, that are safe for us. There are so many self help books written by white folks with white folks in mind. It was a relief to hear this author talk about micro-aggressions, white supremacy and cultural appropriation within the yoga and mindfulness industries. Janece is right that it would be unacceptable for a white author to talk about pride in whiteness and how oppressed white people are, partly because it’s untrue and partly because we don’t need that space to be built; it already exists around us, everywhere. I’m glad this author is encouraging the dismantling of white supremacy and creating mindfulness content that criticizes racist thoughts, actions and beliefs while uplifting Black and Indigenous folks, and all people of Color.

Perfectionism is not a construct of white supremacy, and by definition you are not "colored" by being Asian , and suggesting that you stop talking to someone because they ask you questions about YOUR OWN IDEALS, and you find it "exhausting " is a joke. If you cannot articulate the way you feel about a topic that doesn't make you "exhausted " you're obviously not able to put together your thoughts in a meaningful concise way, your friends that "don't understand " aren't your issues . That's you. You're the issue.

It was going okay until she started with the we live in a white supremacist society and poc are victims. So divisive. Imagine reading a book and having it say poc cause extra difficulties for white people. That would be unacceptable and so is this. Disgusting.
