South Africa's worst wildfire season in nine years

The 2024 wildfire season in South Africa has been the country’s worst in nearly a decade, with the lives of 34 people, 19 of whom were firefighters, lost to the flames by October.

KwaZulu-Natal alone recorded 15 fatalities. Countrywide, over 3,9 million hectares were scorched, 66 buildings
