sambard Kingdom Brunel was the 19th century’s most renowned civil engineer. At age 20, he joined his father Marc Brunel in the construction of the Thames Tunnel, a project that nearly cost him his life in a flood. He went on to design and build some of the age’s greatest bridges, viaducts, buildings,, at that time the largest ship ever built.
