Crewe commemorated

TWO steam locomotives are among the attractions at an exhibition at Crewe Heritage Centre this summer, celebrating the 180th anniversary of the establishment of the Cheshire town’s railway works.

Titled ‘Forging History: 180 years of the Crewe Works’, the exhibition tells the story of how a small farming community was transformed into the largest railway works in the world, employing over 20,000 people after the Grand Junction Railway moved its engineering works from Edge Hill to Crewe.
