Gripping the handle tightly, I shrieked loudly as the waltzer whirled around.

The wind whipped my hair and the music pounded in my ears.

When the ride came to an end, I staggered off, dizzy, with my friends at the fairground in Hull in October 2016.

Later, I laughed as one of the group, Liam Fewster, then 21, tried and failed to hook a duck.

‘Hard luck, ’ I smiled, and he beamed in my direction.

I’d known him through mutual friends, but that night we chatted and two months on we were dating.
