The final engine maintenance operation to look at is checking the cam-chain tension.

On the CB450 the tensioner is simply a spring-loaded rod which presses a wheel against the chain to set the tension. Strictly speaking it is actually not quite that simple, as there is a block of rubber between the rod and the wheel, which provides a little springiness when in operation: the coiled spring is just used to provide a set pressure against the rubber block.

To set the rod position you just need to undo a set screw and its lock
