Home is …
Being surrounded by nature in its wide-open spaces. It’s a slower pace in a coastal town where being outdoors takes a bigger priority than being productive (something I’m definitely still learning). It’s mornings with my feet in the ocean and my head in a book. It’s pastel-pink skies and hot, long-black coffee overlooking the water. It’s a home library I’m well on my way to creating. It’s spending quality time with my partner and two bunny rabbits. It’s having my heart split in two places and knowing that while my whanau and homeland will always be Aotearoa, a surf town on the Bellarine peninsula called Ocean Grove has my heart — for now, at least.
How I start my day …
I’ve always been an early riser and while I have a disdain for and rigidity within my daily life, my morning routine is something I’m religious about — it helps me feel centred and grounded for the day ahead.
I’m usually up by 5am, which means I’m in bed around 8.30pm and, if I’m out, I’ll struggle to make conversation by 7.30pm. I’m not the best dinner-party guest.
