HORSES IN THE SNOW INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY

BEN RACED OUT of school. Two weeks of holidays! Christmas was almost here. He jumped over piles of snow on the road and slid down a toboggan run in the park.

When he got home, he went into the barn to check on his pony, Scout. He slipped him a sugar cube from his pocket, and Scout nuzzled his shoulder.

Ben started toward the house and saw his older brother Jack starting the snowmobile.

“Uncle Mike just called,” said Jack. “He ran out of gas on the big trail. Want to come?”

“Sure!” said Ben. He zipped into the house, pulled on his cold-weather gear, heavy boots, helmet, and goggles, and hopped on the back.

They set off slowly. The snow was fresh and deep on the remote mountain path. When they got to Uncle Mike’s snowmobile, Jack went over with the gas can.
