There was once a time when the term ‘woke’ denoted little more than a disturbance from sleep. But these days, the word is often used to describe an individual who is aware of social problems, such as racism and inequality, and can take those views, arguably, to the extreme.
The term has become interchangeable with ‘political correctness’ and is frequently used to connote a generation who are often cited as being overly sensitive and easily offended, compared to the generations before them. It means that certain words and behaviours that were once deemed acceptable no longer are.
