Our main mission is to implement the policy priorities of Belgian governmental cooperation and to promote sustainable international development.
Collaboration with the Belgian government
The minister responsible for development cooperation draws up the governmental development programmes. The implementation of those programmes is entrusted to Enabel.
Other assignments
Enabel also enhances the impact of Belgium in international development by carrying out assignments for Belgian and international commissioners (e.g. the European Commission, EU member states and development agencies, global funds, Flanders, the Brussels Region…).
Sustainable Development Goals
The Belgian federal government may also rely on Enabel for implementing actions regarding society building, training and awareness raising, promotion of fair and sustainable trade and entrepreneurship, digital for development, innovative financing instruments, and other domains in view of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Double volume, triple impact
Our portfolio has progressively expanded to reach an annual 500 million euros, of which at least 50% originates with the Belgian State, thus significantly strengthening Belgium’s contribution to international development.
Beyond Aid
Enabel successfully evolved away from the traditional development aid system and the North-South paradigm to a new paradigm by pro-actively searching for new financing models which do not solely limit to grants. Besides traditional donors, partner country governments, private businesses and large foundations are among our clients

Enabel has developed expertise that is recognised worldwide and offers client-oriented solutions and support
in response to the major challenges encountered in Africa, Europe and the Middle East in 5 domains, namely: peace and security, climate change, urbanisation, social and economic inequality, and human mobility.
