Finding something to watch can be hard, particularly when it comes to the sheer volume of shows available across all the streaming services in the UK.

If you've worked your way through the best TV series on Disney Plus as well as the best series of 2024 so far, you may be turning your attention to what's available on Amazon's Prime Video services.

The platform boasts a number of impressive exclusive original series while also listing reams of acquisitions and nostalgic hits (yes, The Hills is on there in full). Prime Video is also the UK home for some big US shows, with its MGM+ channel – an add-on service – being how you can watch the Power shows as well as where you can stream Outlander.

But for the purposes of this list, to bring you our pick of the best series on Prime Video, we're going to keep our focus mainly on Amazon originals and shows that are only available there in the UK. If you've not yet taken advantage of the Amazon Prime free trial, you could also utilise that to check some of them out.

Fallout

After the runaway success of HBO's breakthrough hit The Last of Us, there were high expectations – and inevitable comparisons – for Prime Video's own post-apocalyptic video game to TV adaptation, Fallout.

While different, it did not disappoint. Digital Spy gave it an impressive five stars in our review, and it's got a fresh 94% Rotten Tomatoes score. Fallout also went straight to number one in the streamer's charts following its release, which is always a good sign.

The show started with 'The End' – a nuclear apocalypse, to be precise – and the story that then unfolds focuses on the fallout (get it?) of that catastrophic event.

Rings of Power

The return to Middle Earth was a record-breaking one, with Prime Video's big-budget original show becoming the biggest-ever premiere for the streamer at the point of its release.

Centring on of the Lord of the Rings' female characters, the show acts as something of an origin story for Galadriel, while also pulling in further lore from Tolkien's rich source material. We won't spoil anything for you here, except to say that the Rings of Power's second season is set to take things in an exciting direction for fans of the franchise.

The Boys

While the alternative superhero show may not pack quite as much of a punch as it once did, there's still enjoyment to be had in this darker, more X-rated, spin on the (dare we say oversaturated?) genre.

In the world of The Boys, which is based on a comic book of the same name, the Supes explore what would happen if the heroes weren't actually heroic and instead abused their powers for their own insidious agendas. They also have the backing of a billion-dollar company called Vought, which makes money from the powered celebs and issues cover-ups for anything that might threaten their assets.

Gen V

From the same world as The Boys, Gen V is a powerful (quite literally) spin-off. The series does something a little different, using the supernatural abilities of its younger central characters to tackle such themes as eating disorders, teen angst and periods.

The layered approach that Gen V takes when it comes to super-powered storytelling is what sets it apart from other products of the genre, and one we hope will influence future stories (are you listening, Marvel?).

Mr and Mrs Smith

In a world of constant adaptations and re-imaginings, Prime Video's Mr and Mrs Smith – which brought the 2005 espionage movie to the small screen – really did something different.

Starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as the central couple, there was actually very little (besides the basic premise of a married spy couple, kicking things off with a counselling session) in the way of similarities between the two properties.

As we said in our review: "The eight-parter is hugely entertaining and balanced. In an episode where there are international set-pieces for the action-minded, taking the production to the Italian Dolomites, there is also hilarious ski fashion-based commentary from Glover's John which is perfectly pitched for the Atlanta fans tuning in."

I'm a Virgo

We called it "pure magic", and for very good reason.

The Prime Video original, from director and screenwriter Boots Riley, is a coming-of-age story with a difference – and that difference is a 13-foot-tall man named Cootie (played by Jharrel Jerome, who you may recognise from Netflix's brilliant When They See Us).

As Digital Spy's I'm a Virgo review pointed out: "Through Cootie's desperation to find his place in the world… Riley tells the story of exploitation and racial injustice from many angles."

Dead Hot

Harlan Coben is well and truly having a moment, with his recent hit Fool Me Once breaking into the top 10 of Netflix's most-watched series ever and excitement now continues to bubble away for his next upcoming offering, Missing You.

But Dead Hot, which launched to Prime Video in March 2024, comes from the author's daughter Charlotte Coben, who also worked extensively on a number of his projects including the aforementioned Michelle Keegan-fronted series.

The story revolves around two friends, Elliot and Jess, who are bonded by Peter’s (who is Elliot's ex and Jess's twin) sudden disappearance, leaving only a severed finger in a pool of blood. We called it a "deliciously camp, queer" thriller, and it's worth a binge-watch.

Cruel Summer

If you want to talk about an addictive binge-watch experience, look no further than Cruel Summer – whose debut season, starring Olivia Holt as a popular high school girl that's abducted, with the finger being pointed at an outcast called Jeanette, kept you guessing about its central mystery right up until the big twist finale.

The demand for a second season was great, however the series transformed into an anthology with a whole new cast and a different mystery for its second outing.

Reacher

Jack Reacher (played by Alan Ritchson), a retired Military Police Officer, is arrested for a murder he did not commit and as a result is soon pulled into a messy conspiracy.

The popular action-packed series, based on novels by Lee Child, has a widespread and dedicated fan base, and both seasons are highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes (with its second outing just shy of the coveted 100% score, standing at 98%).

A League of Their Own

It may have been cancelled after its first outing (which was actually devastating and unwelcome news), but we'd still recommend giving A League of Their Own your time and attention if you haven't done so already. Because it's exceptional, as we have stated before.

Set during the second World War, it centres on sisters Dottie and Kit as they join the first female professional baseball league. However, rivalry between them is growing, and so is their struggle to help the league succeed.

Upload

From the creator of The Office (US), Greg Daniels, Upload is set in a future where people have the ability to upload themselves to a virtual world after they have died. It may be giving The Good Place vibes – the satire show has drawn such comparisons before – but we've argued that Upload is actually so much more than that.

Starring Robbie Amell as central character Nathan Brown, the brilliant cast also features Zainab Johnson and Andy Allo. With three seasons to get your teeth stuck into, if you haven't already, what are you waiting for?

TV Editor, Digital Spy Laura has been watching television for over 30 years and professionally writing about entertainment for almost 10 of those.  Previously at LOOK and now heading up the TV desk at the UK's biggest TV and movies site Digital Spy, Laura has helped steer conversations around some of the most popular shows on the box. Laura has appeared on Channel 5 News and radio to talk viewing habits and TV recommendations.  As well as putting her nerd-level Buffy knowledge to good use during an IRL meet with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Laura also once had afternoon tea with One Direction, has sat around the fire pit of the Love Island villa, spoken to Sir David Attenborough about the world's oceans and even interviewed Rylan from inside the Big Brother house (housemate status, forever pending).
