Married at First Sight Australia expert John Aiken has confronted a groom for his "gaslighting" behaviour in the first commitment ceremony of the series.

Tonight's episode saw groom Tim Gromie and his bride Katie Johnson exit the experiment after both choosing to leave.

Kicking things off, Katie speculated about whether Tim would show up to the commitment ceremony after he ghosted his bride and stormed out at last week's dinner party.

Hoping to get advice from the experts, Katie showed up and Tim seemed like a no-show. After the commitment ceremony started, Tim walked in, leaving Katie feeling sick. She told the experts how Tim left for Melbourne without telling her.

Revealing that Tim had told her she isn't his type, Katie said: "I'm not any of that and I'm OK with who I am, I like who I am, but you don't want to focus on anything good I have? You're just focusing on what I don't have."

Opening up about their honeymoon, Tim said he tried to talk to Katie who was reading emails and not paying attention to him.

"When you feel that someone's not there for you, that's not a partner I want," he said.

As the discussion turned to the dinner party, relationship expert John Aiken called Tim's behaviour "gaslighting 101," asking him why he returned to the experiment at all.

"You deflected, you blamed her for everything, you said she broke your trust, you said that you were the most honest of the two of and, ultimately, you made her feel like she was going crazy," John said.

He added that it broke his heart to hear Katie "blame herself for the downfall of the relationship".

"I feel like it's a lot on me but there just hasn't been the other way back," Tim said, before both the bride and groom revealed that they had written leave on their cards.

"I know that I am strong, independent and somebody worthy of love," Katie said after saying goodbye to the other couples.

Elsewhere, groom Jake Luik came under fire from expert Mel Schilling following what groom Billy Belcher described as "disrespectful" comments during the photo ranking task.
