77-year-old woman died after being pulled from car submerged in river in Bala Cynwyd

LOWER MERION — The 77-year-old woman who was pulled from a car in the Schuylkill River on Tuesday morning and rushed to a hospital has died, township officials said late Tuesday afternoon.

According to township officials, crews were called to 601 Righters Ferry Road shortly after 9 a.m. on the report of a car in the river.

Two Lower Merion police officers and a member of the Union Fire Company were the first to arrive on scene and pulled the woman from the car.

She was transported to Lankenau Medical Center by Narberth Ambulance.

The Lower Merion officers and the firefighter were also taken to Lankenau to be checked out, and they were released Tuesday afternoon.

The woman’s identity was not yet available.
