About this book

Corneille’s theater is a theater of decisions. In six case studies, this volume examines his canonic stage texts from the years 1636–43 by applying the methods of intellectual history: material-rich references to the political thinking of the time allow the decisionistic leitmotif of the decision come to light in contingent starting situations – and not just in the case of heroes and kings but also the author himself.
