Souffrance is first and foremost Montreuil and 9.3, where he took his first steps in rap with his group L'uZine. Active since the '10s, when 90s sounds were breathing new life into French rap, he embodies the face of boom-bap that doesn't reproduce but perpetuates a heritage.
After a host of team projects, Souffrance released a mixtape, "Noctambus", in 2020, followed by his first solo album, "Tranche de vie", in 2021. A first album seen as an achievement, a box ticked after years of uncertainty. But it was at this point that everything accelerated for Souffrance. He shocked rappers and purists alike, and found himself propelled as one of the finest technicians in the discipline. Jul invited him on his "Classico organisé" and in 2022 he released his second album, "Tour de magie". Once again, he takes the perfect counterpoint, proposing a project at the crossroads of boom-bap and trap.
"People ask me why I savate, because there are people who know ap my definition of rap".
Souffrance's third album, is here to make everyone agree. At a time when rap is in the process of being updated, it defines the genre. Ultra-demanding and meticulous, he distils his latest investments, writing each phase as the last. You can hear the freshness of his debut, but there's no doubt about it: Souffrance has the guts, even more than the day before, and he's not going to leave anything to others.
