From the Dean

Dear visitor,

Welcome to the website of the School of Health Sciences & Education of Harokopio University.

The School was founded in 2013 and includes the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, the oldest University Department in Greece dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of Nutrition-Dietetics, with a successful operation for more than 25 years.

The School offers high level of education, at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, which is ensured by the smooth collaboration between the students and the scientific and administrative staff in an excellent academic environment. The School also accomplishes high level of internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research, through long-standing collaborations with more than 160 Universities and research centers around the world.

In addition to its educational and research activities, mission of the School of Health Sciences & Education is also to meet the needs of the society in nutrition matters, including formulation of nutrition policy, in close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.

History

The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics was established in 1992, as “Department of Dietetics”. In 1994 students were admitted for the first time, while in 1999 the Department was renamed to “Department of Nutrition & Dietetics”. Since 2013 the Department is part of the School of Health Sciences and Education of Harokopio University.

It is the oldest University Department in Greece in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics, and has the mission of training scientists who will apply the Science of Nutrition and Dietetics, aiming at improving and promoting human health through better nutrition and lifestyle.

Since 2000 the Department also runs a Postgraduate Program in Applied Nutrition & Dietetics, both as a full-time and part-time program, as well as Doctoral Studies, leading to a postgraduate and a doctoral degree, respectively. Along with the education of the students, the Department is intensively active in research, with numerous national and international collaborations. According to evaluations by the National Documentation Center, Harokopio University and the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics in particular, hold a leading position among Greek Universities regarding the impact of the research conducted on an international level.
