Lennon Miller Scotland best player aim put down to 'word vomit' as dad rejects cocky claim
The Motherwell youngster has been in the headlines over his comments and dad Lee has offered his views
Lennon Miller has been handed a passionate defence by dad Lee as he insists Scotland best player claim is down to 'word vomit'.
The Motherwell teenager - who continues to come on leaps and bounds at club level - has been rewarded for his fine form at Fir Park with his first call up to Steve Clarke's squad for the Nations League double-header with Greece.
The national team are out to maintain their League A status and while Miller has been hitting the headlines constantly over transfer links, performances and much more, it was a comment in his press conference that has been gathering opinions.
Miller said: "I'm obviously not going to go in and be the best player there, but I believe I could maybe in a couple of months be the best player there."
John McGinn has already came out and defended his young colleague while coach John Carver told the youngster his comments were a 'mistake'
Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast, dad Lee has jumped to the defence of the 18-year-old, and insists he is very humble and confident but in know way is he cocky or arrogant and it was just a case of a line he has blurted out.
He said: "I listened to his interview and it was so good for an 18-year-old to be put in front of the cameras. He spoke really well, it was very respectful and couldn't wait to be meeting up with John McGinn to learn things from him and Billy Gilmour and what not.
"I knew as soon as he said it, and all it is is a bit of word vomit, that is what it was and he blurted it out. Yes he wants to become the best player, who doesn't?
"Yes he is confident. But the way it comes across and the way everybody has portrayed it is as if he is arrogant and cocky and he is so far from that it is unbelievable.
"Yes he has inner belief, that was what he was asked about. But he is humble and respectful and it is just a case of word vomit that has brought it out.
"He believes in himself, why shouldn't he? It is his first call up, he's just came off the back of training and into a press conference. Everybody is questioning him."
