Rangers set to be slapped with UEFA charge over ugly Bilbao clashes as chief goes nuclear on a 'group of radicals'
Bilbao have been informed by UEFA that both they and Rangers can expect to be up on a charge
Rangers are set to be sanctioned again by UEFA for incidents involving their fans after their Europa League exit in Spain, even though it was Athletic Bilbao's home game.
Barry Ferguson's side went out of the competition at the quarter final stage after a 2-0 defeat in the second leg.
Basque Police arrested six people following clashes after the game and Athletic Bilbao have been informed by UEFA that both they and Rangers can expect to be up on a charge after the incidents, after European football's governing body began an investigation.
Athletic were previously fined £30,0000 for incidents after their previous match against Roma.
And Rangers were hit with suspended closure of the Copland Stand and fined £25,000 for an offensive banner, which was displayed during the home leg of their Europa League victory over Fenerbahce.
Any potential fine won't have an impact on that because it didn't happen at their Ibrox home.
The Mayor of Bilbao hit out at fans who caused trouble after the game against Rangers as he turned his glare onto fans from Bilbao.
Juan Mari Aburto said: "We regret the actions of a small group of radicals who were involved in incidents after the match, resulting in six arrests.
"This small group of radical troublemakers on our streets is unnecessary. They do not represent the values or style of Athletic nor those of the Basque people as a whole."
