Officers found "large quantity of stolen property" in East Kilbride home

Police investigating housebreakings recovered piles of stolen property after finding a man and a woman “acting suspiciously” in East Kilbride.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that watches, jewellery, clothing and other items were seized from the home of Chris Chalmers.
Chalmers, 39, of Semphill Gardens, East Kilbride, admitted the reset of property at his home on August 25, 2022.
Michelle Corlett, 39, of Scaraway Drive, Glasgow, admitted having a stolen purse and bank cards.
Carla McGuire, prosecuting, said officers were carrying out inquiries in the Whitemoss area during the afternoon of August 24, 2022.
She told the court: “They observed both accused in a wooded area at John Wright Sports Centre.
“The officers were of the opinion that they were acting suspiciously and stopped them.
“Corlett was searched and the police recovered a quantity of cards, none of which related to Corlett. There was also a driving licence in the name of another person.
“The next morning officers went to Chalmers’s home and found a large quantity of stolen property on open display.
“This included bags, clothing, watches, jewellery, household items, purses, a passport, bank and ID cards, electrical items and cash`.”

Sentence on the pair was deferred until next month for background reports and electronic tagging assessments.
Chalmers’s lawyer, who was not present, will address the court then.
