Scottish DJ and radio presenter George Bowie is set to perform at the Relay For Life Ayrshire this summer.

The 24-hour walking challenge will return for its second year, following the success of last year's event, in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

George, who currently presents the breakfast show and the GBX show on Clyde 1, has been announced as the first performer for the event, with the full line-up yet to be revealed.

Darren Thomson, Relay for Life Ayrshire committee member, said: "We have some artists returning from last year and also some new faces joining us. We will start announcing the acts on our Facebook page."

Darren added: "When we heard that George could be a possibility it was a no brainer, being one of, if not the biggest DJs in the west of Scotland and we're hoping he can help make this event even bigger and better.

"Having an artist as big as George Bowie performing is massive for our event. The Relay For Life Ayrshire committee can't thank him enough for agreeing to come along on the day and we are looking forward to working with him."

Speaking on his Facebook page, Bowie said: "Good luck to everyone involved in this (CRUK Relay For Life Ayrshire). Looking forward to dropping by and helping a great cause."

The fundraiser event will take place at Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock on Saturday, August 16 from 10am and will finish the next morning on Sunday, August 17.

Committee members are looking for teams of friends, family, work colleagues to carry out fundraising leading up to the event itself.

Last year, participants had bake sales, raffles, and took on various challenges like climbing a mountain and cycling various distances.

On August 16, teams will come together for a big 24-hour party, to celebrate their fundraising efforts.

The event is free to join, to sign up please visit here.
