A seminar titled "Undertaking and Steering Research" was held at the University of Chittagong on Thursday to enhance students' research skills and motivate them toward scholarly pursuits.
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organised the seminar in association with the Chittagong University Research and Higher Study Society and the Communication and Journalism Research Association at the A.K Khan Auditorium of the Faculty of Law at CU.
CU vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yeahia Akhter addressed the seminar as chief guest. The VC encouraged students to actively participate in research activities to elevate the university’s position in international rankings.
“To understand what our teachers are researching, visit the university’s website. It contains descriptions of their work and publications. If you don’t find such details, ask them directly,” said Professor Dr. Muhammad Yeahia Akhter.
Pointing at the CU faculty members the VC said “Don’t leave your profiles blank; write something, even if it’s minimal. A good appearance alone won’t earn marks in the rankings. I request all faculty members to upload their research activities, as this will also contribute to their personal academic scores.”
The keynote address on "Publishing Your Research" was delivered by Dr. Abdul Aziz, a lecturer at Monash University in Malaysia, and a former student of CU’s Department of Communication and Journalism.
Abdul Aziz said, “Facebook is not just a social media platform; it can also serve as a powerful tool for research. The more references you provide in your research, the stronger it becomes. Ensure that your research paper convinces reviewers through its quality and depth.”
Mohammad Tarek Hossain, a Ph.D candidate at the National University of Singapore, shared his insights on "Undergraduate Research and Career in Research."
Tarek Hossain discussed ideas for collecting and publishing research, writing high-quality journal papers, and advancing in higher education.
Professor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, additional director of IQAC, presided over the seminar while Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, president of the Communication and Journalism Research Association, addressed the event.
Over 500 students participated in the seminar which aimed to enhance their research abilities and inspire them toward academic excellence.
