Mae Muller reveals King Charles is a Eurovision fan as she and other hopefuls rehearse for the final... but past champions Bucks Fizz don't think she's a winner
The UK's Eurovision entry Mae Muller has revealed King Charles is fan of the competition as she rehearsed for the upcoming Grand Final on Wednesday.
However, despite gaining the support of royalty, 1981 winner and former Bucks Fizz member Jay Aston admitted that she doesn't think the hopeful, 25, will win.
Performing at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, Mae slipped into a black jumpsuit with a mesh waist panel and flared trousers for the dress rehearsal.
As she gears up for this weekend's final, she discussed her 'chill' meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla as they wished her luck ahead of the show.
Joining The Rebecca Judd Show on Apple Music 1, Mae excitedly said: 'Just another moment that I can just add to my life where I'm like, "What's going on?"'
Gearing up: The UK's Eurovision entry Mae Muller, 25, has revealed King Charles is fan of the competition as she rehearsed for the upcoming Grand Final on Wednesday
Belting it out: However, despite gaining the support of royalty, 1981 winner and former Bucks Fizz member Jay Aston admitted that she doesn't think the hopeful will win
She explained: 'He met the hosts and he met me, and it was just quite nice, him and Camilla. I can't even remember what they said now, it was a bit of a blackout, but they just were wishing me good luck and that they'd be watching from home.
'What was weird is seeing someone who you know their face so well, but then looking at him in real life, I was like, "Oh my God, you're real. That's so weird. That's so odd."
'I've never met a royal before, so I was like, "What do I do? Do I curtsy? Is that a thing still? What do I address them as?" I just didn't know.
'I thought I'd watched enough of The Crown to be up to date, but I was like, "I'm not going to rely on that. I need to get some actual... do my research,'" she joked.
Mae added: 'It was quite chill and it did feel, despite it not being normal at all, it did feel just quite natural and organic. But I did say, "What do I say? Just so I don't offend anyone." But it was chill. It was chill.'
Despite garnering the support of Charles and Camilla, Bucks Fizz member Jay, gave her predictions to Sky Bingo.
The singer began: 'Sam Ryder changed the whole dynamic and landscape with a phenomenal song, and he’s just such a great performer – he’s just got that star quality.
'I wish Mae all the luck, but I don’t think it’s a winner if I’ve got to be honest. I think she’ll do really well, hopefully top five, but I don’t think she’ll win unless something amazing happens on the night.'

Practice: Tvorchi of Ukraine also prepared for the final wearing an embellished top
Jay added: 'Sometimes, someone can just sort of be around fourth or fifth and then something just happens on the night, which is always unforeseen, and that usually gets reflected in the public vote. I’m sure Ukraine will do really well, but I don’t think their song is as strong this year.'
'Sweden is the favourite and should remain so. For me, that’s the one that stands out because she’s done it before - Loreen, the Swedish entry.
'She is the favourite and I think for good reason because there is just a confidence about her performance, because she’s won It before and its very rare that you go back and win it again – I don’t think anyone has ever done that other than Johnny Logan.
'It’s the confidence and there is a similarity in the song that she did before which was a winner. There is a change in the music this year – there is just a slight shift, with a few dark horses – but I think Loreen really has got it.'
It comes after King Charles, 74, chatted to Mae at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool last month and told her he will be 'egging [her] on' as she battles against 36 other nations to be crowned the winner.
As he stood beside Queen Camilla following their official opening of the Eurovision stage where this year's contest will be held on May 13, he wished her good luck.
Camilla, 65, added: ‘no nul points!’ - a reference to her wish that Mae would not repeat some of the UK's Eurovision flops over the last few years.
Beaming: Finnish entry Käärijä caught the eye in a neon green ensemble
Contest: Iru Khechanovi from Georgia looked incredible in a flowing chiffon gown
Edgy: Voyager of Australia rocked out on stage with a car
Elegant: Elsewhere, Alika Milova of Estonia looked chic in a powder blue outfit
Chatting with Mae, who will be singing ‘I Wrote A Song’, Charles told her: ‘Good luck, we’ll be watching with great interest, egging you on.’
‘Thank you!’ she giggled. ‘No pressure. No nul points this year.’ ‘No nul points,’ Camilla agreed.
Eurovision director Martin Green started a countdown from ten before the royal couple pressed the button and the arena exploded in a cacophony of light, colour and sound.
It ended with the official Coronation logo in tribute to Their Majesties.
