Woman reveals she was locked out of Tesla because the handles froze
A furious Tesla owner as shared her horror after getting locked out of her car on a chilly morning when the car's unique door handles froze shut. Khadijah Ceesay, from Maryland , began filming her experience for a TikTok video as she attempted to get into her car to go to work. But much to her dismay, when she pressed her thumb against the automatic handles on the doors she found them immovable thanks to the poor weather conditions.
The content creator wrote in the overlaid text, 'TESLA EXPLAINNNN!!!!' before captioning the video: 'It’s too early for this! How is my car frozen?' In the clip, which has been viewed 1.7 million times, Khadijah narrated the video by informing her followers: 'Let me show you something. 'My car is frozen. I did not know this is possible. My car is literally frozen. I can't get something and I have to go to work.'
She laughed nervously before finally gaining access to the vehicle by opening the trunk. Her followers flocked to the comments to share their reaction to the problem as one person humorously wrote: 'Put it in rice' to which she responded: 'Wish I could pin this comment.' A second person commented: 'Another reason why Tesla is trash,' and a third person added: 'You just made me change my mind about Tesla.'
Another commenter comedically wrote: 'Laughs in Camry.' Other users commented with their recommendations on how to get the handles to open. One person wrote: 'Use the app to open the door, Tesla literally fixed this issue with the app.'
Khadijah responded and wrote: 'I know. It's just barely winter and my car is the only frozen one at home. That was the point of the video. 'Also, the unlatch doors feature fails some.' Another person suggested: 'Put hot water in a Ziploc bag and put it on your handles to unfreeze them.'
One user commented their thoughts on how the situation will progress: 'Theory: Tesla is fully aware of this issue, and are holding off on keys that beep doors open to be a new "upgrade" to sell later.' Tesla's unique flat door handles can be found on its Model Y and Model 3 vehicles. The brand recommends drivers focus on the car's winter settings for smooth sailing during the colder months, according to the its owner's manual. When it comes to its doors freezing like Khadijah's, Tesla advised to go into the mobile Tesla app and 'touch and hold any of the four quick control buttons and follow the instructions to customize quick controls with unlatch door.'
Once you are standing next to your car, simply press the button on your phone and it will open. If you are trying to remove ice from the handle and your door handles are black, 'forcefully press the front most part of the door handle. It will rock slightly inward to help break the ice. 'Press the rearmost part of the door handle to try to open as you normally would. 'Once the door handle is able to move, open and close it a few more times to release any remaining ice buildup. 'Make sure the door handle is fully pressed in (retracted) prior to entering the vehicle and check that the door is fully closed before driving away.'
If your door handles are silver, 'you can usually remove the ice with a few forceful bumps to the door handle using the bottom of your fist. 'Forcefully press the rearmost part of the door handle to try to open the door handle. 'Working in a circular pattern around the perimeter of the door handle, use the bottom of your fist to forcefully bump the door handle to break and release the ice buildup.'
'Aiming for the rearmost end of the wide part of the door handle, use the bottom of your fist to forcefully bump the door handle. 'Increase the intensity of the bumps as necessary, repeating steps one through three, until the ice is removed and the door handle can be opened.'
'Once the door handle is able to move, open and close it a few more times to release any remaining ice buildup. 'Make sure the door handle is fully pressed in (retracted) prior to entering the vehicle, and check that the door is fully closed before driving away,' it continued.
