UPDATED:

The first outgoing pieces for next season’s roster puzzle have been revealed for the Colorado men’s basketball team.

On Wednesday, reports surfaced that second-year guard Courtney Anderson is planning to leave the CU program to pursue other options via the transfer portal. Later on Wednesday, backup forward Harrison Carrington also entered the transfer portal.

BuffZone confirmed that Anderson will not be available in Las Vegas next week as the Buffs begin play in the inaugural College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas against Villanova. As of Wednesday afternoon, Carrington’s status for the CBC remained uncertain.

A 6-foot-5 guard out of Vallejo, Calif., Anderson redshirted last year as a true freshman and was unable to crack the rotation this season, appearing in just four nonconference games while playing a total of just 15 minutes, 40 seconds.

Anderson played a career-high 10:30 and scored what proved to be the only points of his Buffs’ career during final nonconference game against Bellarmine on Dec. 21. Anderson, who missed practice time during the preseason and in the middle of the regular season due to injuries, didn’t play in any of the past 23 games.

Carrington, a former walk-on who was awarded a scholarship before the season, didn’t play heavy minutes for the Buffs but did make regular appearances, playing in 28 of 34 games. Carrington averaged 3.0 points in 8.9 minutes while posting a .591 field goal percentage.

Last week, CU head coach Tad Boyle said he expects to sign one or two players out of the transfer portal. Boyle also said toward the end of the regular season he plans to keep the program at 13 scholarships, despite the pending expansion to a possible 15.

The departure of Anderson and Carrington, combined with the four players already set to leave after the CBC — Andrej Jakimovski, Trevor Baskin, Julian Hammond III and Javon Ruffin — puts the Buffs at a projected 12 scholarships with a five-player freshman class joining the program this summer. But additional portal departures might still be on the way.
