The St. Vrain Valley school board on Wednesday approved two new principals for Mead schools.

Dustin Cady will start in the fall as the new principal of Mead High School. Cady will replace Principal Brian Young, who recently was promoted to the district’s executive director of human resources position.

Cady is in his fifth year as the principal at Manitou Springs Middle School. He previously worked as an assistant principal and as a teacher in the Harrison School District. He also taught in Spain and has coached baseball and basketball, served as a camp counselor and was a guest lecturer at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Josh Barnett will become the principal of the new PK-8 school that will be built in Mead. The district plans to open the new school in the fall of 2026, but typically hires the principal in advance to lead the planning work. The district recently broke ground on the school and plans to host a community meeting for future families in May.

Barnett has worked in St. Vrain Valley since 2001. He is in his 17th year as the principal at Mead Middle School. Previously, he was an assistant principal at Altona Middle, as well as a social studies teacher at Silver Creek.
