The release date window for the Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue has been revealed by actor Donnie Wahlberg.
Boston Blue was announced by CBS in February 2025 after the original Blue Bloods series ended in December 2024. Except for Wahlberg, the creators of the show have not yet announced the main cast of the upcoming show.
Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue will get a fall 2025 release date
Actor Donnie Wahlberg recently surprised Blue Bloods fans by posting a short promo for the spin-off Boston Blue on Instagram.
The promo, which lasts only a few seconds, states that the release date of the spin-off is set for fall this year. As well as posting the promo on his account, Wahlberg expressed his excitement in the caption and wrote, “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!”
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, the story of Boston Blue will revolve around Wahlberg’s character, Detective Danny Reagan. In the new show, Danny will take on new challenges as he shifts to Boston and takes a new job there at the Boston Police Department.
Furthermore, in December 2024, Wahlberg sat down with Entertainment Weekly and discussed an alternate ending for his character with the outlet. However, he also ended up teasing the spin-off while giving his answer. He told the outlet that he wants Danny to enter the next chapter of his life “in a different place doing a similar job.” He also wished to have a Blue Bloods cast member join him in the spin-off. Wahlberg asserted that he did not want Danny to be too “far from the family so that he could still see them and spend time with them.”
