A24 has released a new The Legend of Ochi video, showing off more of the film while also subtly addressing claims that the movie was made using AI.
What happens in The Legend of Ochi video?
The new video, posted by both A24 and director Isaiah Saxon, highlights the real-life effort that went into the film. This includes the use of practical effects, puppetry for some of the creatures, as well as the old school use of matte paintings to create backdrop images for the film’s fantasy settings.
The matte paintings and puppetry aspects in the video specifically address the controversy that The Legend of Ochi faced when it was initially revealed last year. At the time of its announcement, many fans were quick to claim that the movie was made using AI, a claim that Saxon has always been adamant has been false.

The Legend of Ochi is Saxon’s feature film directorial debut. Saxon also wrote the screenplay for the fantasy adventure film and produces it alongside Richard Peete, Traci Carlson, and Jonathan Wang.
“In a remote village on the island of Carpathia, a shy farm girl named Yuri is raised to fear an elusive animal species known as ochi,” the synopsis for the film reads. “But when Yuri discovers a wounded baby ochi has been left behind, she escapes on a quest to bring him home.”
