What Did Roseanne Barr Say To Get Fired From The Conners?

Netizens are eager to know why ABC fired Roseanne Barr from The Conners. The series is gearing up to drop its seventh and final season this month. The Conners serves as a direct sequel to the popular sitcom Roseanne, starring Roseanne Barr. However, Barr’s absence from the show has sparked curiosity among fans.

Here’s everything we know about why Roseanne Barr is absent from The Conners.

Here’s what got Roseanne Barr fired from ABC’s The Conners

Roseanne Barr is no longer a part of ABC’s The Conners as she was at the center of a major controversy in 2018.

Barr was the leading lady of Roseanne, one of the most popular sitcoms of the ’80s. The show premiered in 1988 and ended in 1997 before briefly returning in 2018. However, the highly anticipated revival was short-lived, as ABC fired Barr after she made extremely offensive and racist tweets. On May 28, 2018, Barr posted a tweet attacking former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, calling her the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

Barr deleted the tweets the following day and publicly apologized to Jarrett. She wrote, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me—my joke was in bad taste.” However, the damage was already done, and ABC wasted no time in firing Barr. The Roseanne spin-off, originally intended to bring back Barr, was instead rebranded as The Conners.

The Conners debuted on October 16, 2018, and addressed Roseanne Barr’s absence by killing off Roseanne Conner in the very first episode. The spin-off revealed that Roseanne Conner had died from an opioid overdose. This development did not sit well with Barr, who lashed out on social media. In a now-deleted tweet, she posted, “I AIN’T DEAD, B——!” and called ABC’s decision “grim and morbid.” (via The Irish Times)

In a recent interview with Variety earlier this year, Barr was outspoken about her contempt for ABC. When asked if she would consider working with the network for her new show, she responded with a resounding, “F— no.” Barr currently hosts her own podcast, The Roseanne Barr Podcast, and has revealed that she is working on a new comedy series.
